In Chapter 13 of Dr. Mark Hyman’s book Young Forever, a chapter that features self-knowledge and encourages testing on your own to determine your actual health.

The opening quote is by Voltaire and describes traditional medicine, “Doctors are men who prescribe medicine of which they know little, to cure diseases of which they know less, for human beings of which they know nothing.”

I also enjoy Dr. Hyman’s book on his Pagan diet and the many refreshing and whole foods recipes that are included, which inspired me to begin Developing the Kegan diet.  Basically, vegan, with the ketogenic properties of high-quality protein, while keeping total carb grams down to 30-35/day.

I will be sharing some of my best Kegan recipes in upcoming Common Ground blog posts in the future.

What actually got me looking and feeling better, and being healthier, was the book recommended by my physician Dr. Quarton of Carlinville, The Obesity Code:  Unlocking the Secrets of Weight loss by Dr. Jason Fung.

Dr. Fung describes the actual science of ketogenesis and scientifically proven methods for permanently losing weight, becoming fit, and building/maintaining a healthy body and gut (more important that traditional medicine gives attention to) while changing your habits to include many of the principles outlined by Dr. Hyman in his book, Young Forever, and his discussions of new breakthroughs in Functional medicine.

Dr. Hyman is also a strong proponent of zero consumption of white flour and white sugar.
